Celebrating Advent and Christmas at St. John’s Church

Pageant Rehearsal

All Sundays of Advent

Our Children’s Christmas Pageant Rehearsal begins December 2 and continues on the following 2 Sundays. All children are welcome to participate. Children may join rehearsals each Sunday at the 10am service.

Paul’s Place Holiday Store

During the month of December Paul’s Place in Baltimore’s Washington Village (Pigtown) area opens a Holiday Store for parents to shop for their children. All unwrapped gifts and food items are to be dropped off at St. John’s Parish Hall by December 4th to be delivered to Paul’s Place in time for the opening of their Holiday Store.

Service of Remembrance

Sunday, December 16 at 5pm in the Church

On Sunday, December 18 at 5pm we will hold our annual Service of Remembrance for families and friends who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Our desire is for you to find comfort and support during the holiday season, which is often challenging for those who are in the midst of grieving. The Service of Remembrance is an opportunity to remember loved ones in the midst of worship and prayer. A light supper follows the service in the Parish Hall.

Advent Lessons and Carols

December 16 at 10am

Sunday, December 18 at 10am St. John’s presents an Advent Service of Lessons and Carols. The service is modeled on the traditional Christmas service of Lessons and Carols at Kings College Chapel that takes place on Christmas Eve and is broadcast throughout the world. The service consists of seven readings from the Old and New Testament marking the creation of Adam and Eve, the Rebellion of Adam and Eve, the promise of a New Covenant, the prophecy of the Messiah, and the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Each lesson is followed by appropriate anthems and carols sung by the choir and the congregation. Plan to attend and invite your friends to join us. Following the Lessons and Carols there will be Carols around the piano at Coffee Hour in the Parish Hall.  We will also honor Sue Housel, a cherished member of our office staff who will be retiring at the end of this year.

Greening of the Church
