The Sacrament of Marriage
Marriage is one of the seven sacraments of the church. The Sacrament of Marriage is a particular moment in time when God’s blessing is invoked by participation in acts and vows that are intended to honor the couples’ commitment to God and each other and to strengthen them for the life that they are choosing together. The community which surrounds them during their marriage is a witness to these vows and also promises support for their union.
Weddings are among the most joyful and spirit-filled events in the life of St. John’s Church. It is a ministry we love to share with our members. Because we are a small church, it is not a ministry which we are able to offer to those outside our community.
If you are a member of St. John’s Church and are interested in having your wedding in our church, please download and read the Wedding Guidelines. Please note that all marriages in The Episcopal Church are preceded by three counseling sessions and are performed at the discretion of the Rector. In the case of previous marriages, other guidelines apply.
After reading the guidelines, a call to the Parish Administrator, (410) 429-4690, regarding available dates is advisable. However, no date for a wedding is placed on the church calendar until the couple has had a conversation with one of the clergy.
