Corporate worship calls for the participation of the whole community.
For some, this participation comes through enthusiastic hymn singing or seeking to attend more deeply to the rich language of our prayers. But we also love to have as many people as possible taking up the various leadership roles that exist.
You can find out how to sign up for these important ministries by contacting the office (410-429-4690 or administrator@stjohnswrp.org) or by speaking to a clergy person after worship.

Here are some of the ways that you might get more involved:
The ushers have the important task of welcoming parishioners and visitors as they arrive for worship. They distribute service bulletins, and are available to answer questions. They also help keep decorum by directing parishioners and visitors to and from the altar, and by making sure that the church is ready for the next service.
Children and adults are invited to serve at the Altar. They carry the cross in procession, and assist in the preparation of the Altar for the Eucharist. We particularly welcome older children to this ministry as a way to deepen their involvement in our shared worship.
The Altar Guild have an essential role in making our worship beautiful. They clean and care for the silver vessels, linens, and vestments used in the Eucharist. They supply and arrange the beautiful flowers that decorate our Altar. And they prepare the chancel for services.
The chalicists assist the clergy at the Eucharist and administer the cup during communion.
When scripture is read well, it dramatically helps our understanding. Our lectors prepare ahead of time to ensure they have a solid understanding of the meaning and flow of the text so that they can read it with clarity and eloquence. This helps all of us to connect more deeply with the scripture.
The intercessors lead, and sometimes write, the prayers of the people, helping us to lay our pain, our hopes, and our concerns before God.
