Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes to prepare the altar for worship?

The Altar Guild at St. John’s is a quiet but deeply sacred ministry at the heart of our worship. Through careful preparation of the altar, vessels, linens, flowers, and candles, members of the Altar Guild offer their love for God and God’s people in ways that are often unseen yet profoundly felt. This is a ministry where love is shown in the details, where reverence, beauty, and faithfulness prepare the way for the Church’s prayer throughout the year.

Those who serve on the Altar Guild often speak of it as a spiritual gift: a ministry of devotion, attentiveness, and prayerful care. In tending the holy things of the Church, we are drawn more deeply into the mystery of the Eucharist and into a quiet, faithful offering of ourselves to God.

Upcoming Information Sessions

If you are curious about the Altar Guild, interested in joining, or would simply like to learn more about the spiritual meaning and deep symbolism behind this ministry, you are warmly invited to attend one of two upcoming gatherings in the sacristy led by Fr. Ivan:

  • Monday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m.

These sessions will offer an opportunity to explore the spiritual life that surrounds the care of the altar, learn about the practices of the Altar Guild, and ask any questions you may have. Whether you are considering joining the guild, are new to the ministry, or would simply like a refresher, all are welcome.

If you already serve on the Altar Guild, you may find it helpful to bring your manual. If you do not have one, please contact Laura in the parish office.

Please RSVP to Fr. Ivan with the date you plan to attend.

We hope you will join us as we reflect together on this beautiful ministry of preparing the Lord’s altar.
